"Prolonged Gush" is a multi-media collaboration conjoining vocals, unconventional electronic instruments, classical acoustics, and sculptural performance. In the first segment, together with sculptor Eliza Fernand’s original choreography in handmade costumes, lullabies by composer Ayaka Nishina will be played by herself (piano); singer Gretchen Parlato, winner of the 2004 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition; and cellist Victoria Bass, a member of the Pittsburg New Music Ensemble. In the second segment, Fernand and Nishina will join with smop(), a NYC-based electronic improvisation team. Using such unconventional instruments as video game controllers, smop()'s humans are as integral as the machines in their performance. Throughout Prolonged Gush, the ensemble will explore themes of aquatic dissolve.
