May 07, 2007 - May 11, 2007
Harvestworks
596 Broadway, #602 | Manhattan, NY

The intensive will be taught by veteran sound artists Michael Schumacher
(http://diapasongallery.org/mjs.page.html) and Hans Tammen
(http://www.tammen.org).
Fifteen (15) hours of lecture demonstrations will immerse radio professionals in the history, aesthetics, styles and techniques of sound art. The intensive is project oriented: participating producers will develop and create a short feature podcast (5 minutes or less) incorporating the techniques of sound art learned over the course of the workshop. Fifteen (15) hours of lab time will be spent listening to works in progress, followed by discussion and constructive critical assessment and hands on technical support.
AIR expects to showcase and promote fully evolved, polished works developed in tandem with the intensive via PRX and/or airmedia.org in the early summer. There will be some post-intensive production support provided by AIR in preparation for the public podcasting phase. This workshop targets advanced level radio/audio producers who would like to expand their sound techniques palette and take their work into new digital media sound territory. The workshop requires demonstrable expertise in digital sound gathering, editing and mixing techniques. A work sample (5 minutes) will be requested to determine eligibility. A panel selected by AIR and Harvestworks will review applications. Applicants will be asked to submit a short (5 minutes, maximum) feature project proposal describing a work they expect to create during the workshop. It should be a project suitable for podcasting. Registrants must be current members of AIR or Harvestworks.
