Mary Livingstone was born on this date in 1905, and tonight we go to her birthday party on a very early Jack Benny broadcast for Chevrolet on this date in 1933. "Frontier Gentleman" returns tonight with #37 "Ther Preacher". We are skipping over #35 & 36 as these scripts were previously heard on the series. Kendell intervenes in a gunfight between the preacher and a man who wants to kill him.
Also on June 23, the radio premiere of BOSTON BLACKIE starring Chester Morris. According to the Old Time Radio Researchers:
“Boston Blackie is a fictional character who has been on both sides of the law. As originally created by author Jack Boyle, he was a safecracker -- a hardened criminal who had served time in a California prison. Prowling the underworld as a detective in adaptations for films, radio, and television, the detective Boston Blackie was "an enemy to those who make him an enemy, friend to those who have no friend".
It was a summer replacement for The Amos 'n' Andy Show. Sponsored by Rinso, the series continued until September 15 of that year. Unlike the concurrent films, Blackie had a steady romantic interest in the radio show -- Lesley Woods appeared as Blackie's girlfriend Mary Wesley. Harlow Wilcox was the show's announcer."
Tonight, the premiere boradcast "The Jonathan Diamond" aka "The Rockwell Diamond".
Finally, another ZIV syndicated series from 1951 starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall - BOLD BVENTURE - that's the name of Slate Shannon's ship. Tonight, ripped from today's headlines (sort of) #40 "Escape From Gauntanamo". Shannon is asked to help return Paul Brewer, an escaped murderer, to jail. Written by Morton Fine and David Friedkin, with music by Billy Rose.
