This broadcast focuses on a local effort to oppose the building of a new jail in Dutchess County. Interviews with Judah Schept, Associate Professor in the School of Justice Studies at Eastern Kentucky University and author of "Progressive Punishment: Job Loss, Jail Growth, and the Neoliberal Logic of Carceral Expansion," and James Kilgore, a scholar and activist based in Champaign, Illinois" are featured. In addition to discussing their roles in local campaigns opposing jail growth in the Midwest, Kilgore and Schept will discuss the concept of carceral humanism, or "incarceration lite," which includes the array of alternative punitive strategies that have emerged in recent years. Plus, an interview with Geri Wilmott, who is part of a local effort to oppose the building of a new jail in Poughkeepsie.
