Special broadcast celebrating the launch of Douglas Kahn's new book Earth Sound Earth Signal (UC Press 2013.) The book explores aelectrosonic and natural electromagnetic sounds from the nineteenth century to the present, centered around the work of composer Alvin Lucier.

This Saturday Night Special broadcast also features an interview with Douglas Kahn, conducted by Galen Joseph-Hunter the morning following the Eyebeam launch event. Then, recorded at Eyebeam Storefront in New York City on October 17, 2013, a panel of artists and scientists including Brian Dewan, David First, Annea Lockwood, Paul D. Miller, and others respond to the book and pose questions to the author, Douglas Kahn. The panel is introduced by Joseph-Hunter. Following the discussion, Daniel Neumann (CT-SWaM) presents a multi-channel audio performance Tectonics of Absence by Suzanne Thorpe and Tristan Shepard.

Douglas Kahn is Professor at the National Institute for Experimental Arts, College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales and author of Noise Water Meat: A History of Sound in the Arts.
