Infinite Contact: A Kenny and Company Halloween Special (Audio)
Every X-mas we went over to my aunt's house on my dad's side. We didn't talk with that side of the family much, but I liked them. My cousin John was older and a computer wizard and he had a souped up computer that he got from working at Egghead Software, where the components often fell off the back of the truck. My grandma who smoked into her eighties always gave us fifty dollar bills. Sweet.
The only weird part was these cousins named Toby and Paul. Toby was about a million years old, and his son Paul was like 50 and lived with Toby. Paul was an odd one. For X-mas one year he gave my brother and me a VHS cassette that he'd taped off the TV of a movie called Kenny and Company. He said it was one of his favorites. And it had a few bad words. He was super excited for us to have Kenny and Company.
We watched Kenny and Company. Incessantly. First as a joke. It was a low budget after school movie with a lot of rough edges. And it had a bit of pederast vibe. But Kenny and Company aged like fine wine. I made all my friends watch it, and it was my test I'd give any new people I started dating. If they could hang with Kenny and Co., we could hang.
It's a halloween movie. It's about being a kid in california and growing up in the 70s. I didn't grow up in the 70s. I grow up in the age of stranger danger, but I knew people who did. It seemed like a fun way to grow up. That's what this movie reminds me of. My cousin John, and the cool kids I knew who grew up in the 70s riding skinny skateboards and just walking into their friends' houses uninvited. That's what this movie is about. But it's about so much more. It's a masterpiece.
This my homage to Kenny and Company. With synth moves.
