Overlooked: Songs for My Sister II (Audio)
After the local news at noon, host Rob Saffer plays some of his sister Cathy's favorite songs and musicians. Cathy is gravely ill with cancer. The broadcast is a celebration of her life, just days before what Saffer hopes will be her 60th birthday. There will be musical prayers from the Beatles, David Bowie, Yo La Tengo, Joni Mitchell, the Roches, the Grateful Dead, and many others. An earlier version of ’Songs for My Sister’ aired on August 27, 2019, when Cathy was first diagnosed. That audio can be found here, in the Overlooked archives. Apologies if there are one or two repeat songs.
Overlooked is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Broadcast live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
