May 10, 2022

After the local news at noon, host Rob Saffer serves up a head-spinning selection of nearly 30 new releases, most relatively short in length. This live broadcast from Overlook Mountain will serve up a sonic menu of oratorios, masses, drones, and drone masses, music that is sacred and profane, African-inspired jazz and jazz-inspired African music, African-tinged psychedelia, and Satie-inflected ambiance, pieces maximal and minimal, a Carnatic clarinet, some Slovenian jazz noise, several duos and trios, a prelude for banjo and a piano prelude by Shostakovich, and many other sounds inspired by Cuba, Canada, Gabon, Morocco and beyond. Included in the broadcast: Sofia Gubaidulina, Johann Johannsson, Dave Douglas, Mark Turner, Kalia Vandever, Eucalyptus, Bye Bye Tsunami, Ches Smith, Matthew Stevens and Walter Smith III, Jerome Begin and David Friend, Pape Nziengui, Martin Bejerano, Igor Levit, Claremont Trio, Matt Haimovitz, Lloyd Miller, Club D’Elf, Julie Doiron and Dany Placard, Steve Gunn, Wet Tuna, Big Thief, Jason Blake, John Bullard, Sirom, LEYA, Pan American, Tapani Rinne and Juha Maki Patola, and Tangerine Dream.

Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation.
