Dave Phillips (Audio)

May 12, 2018
Produced by Dave Phillips for Radioart106.
Dave Phillips has been a purveyor of radical sound since the mid 80's, as a founding member of the influential fear of god and since 1991 as part of the schimpfluch-gruppe (with rudolf eb.er and others). working solo since 1987, dp has developed a unique sonic language typified by sharp compositional techniques as well as strong environmentalist connotations.
Homo animalis was composed between 2009 and 2011 and thoroughly reworked and conceived as an album between 2012-2014. the work describes a phase in dp's life/work marked by incisive personal experiences formed into sound. An intensification of the compositional approach and the increased use of classical instruments are some of the more noticable sonic aspects.
Dave Phillips's humanimalism is a concept worded here for the first time. it describes a developed humanoid existence that has overcome the erroneous religious and material phases and has grown into an empathic creature that has made a clear shift towards an emotion-based existence, with social and environmental senses as primary and inherent functions.

The show started as a weekly radio art program produced and presented by Meira Asher. It was transmitted by KolHaCampus106FM Tel Aviv, between 2014 - 2017, until the station closed down. From January 2017, RADIOART106 is transmitted every first Saturday of the month at 2 p.m. ET (-5 UTC) on Wave Farm Radio and WGXC 90.7-FM. The program is part of the Radia.fm network. Radioart106 explores radiophonic works of worldwide radio artists. Radio art is a subset of Sound art where radio art is produced for the medium of radio and is specifically intended for broadcast. It opens new ways and approaches to radio making, where the audience is assumed to embrace, or even demand, a deep, intense and stimulating listening/participatory experience.
