Hudson Valley Word of Mouth: Julian Hom of Alleyway Ice Cream (Audio)

Jun 30, 2021
Produced by Julia Joern.

In the latest Hudson Valley Word of Mouth segment, Julia Joern visits Julian Hom, owner of Alleyway Ice Cream. And it’s just like it sounds. Located down a little alley just off Partition Street in Saugerties, Hom converted a ground floor linen closet at The Village Inn into a tiny-sized shop that serves some of the most memorable ice cream around. Handmade in small batches, his ice cream is personally crafted using both classic and unexpected ingredients. And he's also not afraid to experiment with unconventional combinations. But most of all, he loves making ice cream because it makes people happy.

A native of Woodstock (and the son of Michael, owner of Bluestone Coffee Roasting Company in Saugerties), Hom left upstate New York to work as a photographer in New York City and around the world, but returned to the Hudson Valley to start his business in 2017. Though primarily self-taught, he did attend ‘ice cream college’ at Penn State, and continues to travel the globe to discover new tastes and flavors.
