Overlooked: Bowl of RaMen (Audio)

May 28, 2019
Coming nearly a week after what would have been Sun Ra’s 105th birthday, "Overlooked" will present the music of Ra’s sidemen, many of who rarely played outside of his legendary Arkestra. Host Rob Saffer, along with Saturn researchers Marc Epstein and Michael Shore, have selected tunes from musicians such as John Gilmore, Tyrone Hill, Marshall Allen, Pat Patrick, Craig Harris and Ahmed Abdullah, playing in groups led by musicians from Andrew Hill and Paul Bley to Freddie Hubbard and McCoy Tyner. “Overlooked” is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational music and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Broadcast live from the Hudson studio.
