The Radio Art Hour: KMRU (Audio)
This episode of The Radio Art Hour features the October 10, 2023 broadcast of Palettes, a radio show by sound artist KMRU and is introduced by Wave Farm Radio Art Fellow Austin T. Richey.
KMRU (Joseph Kamaru) is a Nairobi-born sound artist and producer currently based in Berlin. In his introspective and emotionally resonant music, KMRU intricately weaves together diverse sonic elements — from indigenous sounds to field recordings and studio synthesis — to craft atmospheric soundscapes that are locally defined and experimentally global. KMRU’s regular radio program Palettes, broadcast on stegi.radio, offers listeners a deep dive into the realm of ambient sound, where the line between music and the natural soundscape blurs. KMRU utilizes his extensive library of field recordings, gathering sounds from diverse locations to construct a geographically and culturally ambiguous space. On October 10, 2023, KMRU presented a broadcast distinctively his own, playing exclusively tracks from his evolving oeuvre. This deliberate selection transformed the airwaves into a personal gallery, offering listeners a curated auditory walk through the soundscapes of his mind and experiences. -Introduced by Wave Farm Radio Art Fellow 2024, Austin T. Richey.
