Nothing Is Real Radio Hour: Ending Verizon, Part One (Audio)
For this special edition of the "Nothing Is Real Radio Hour," host + creator Sam Sebren presents an actual phone call with Verizon Wireless detailing Sebren’s attempts at ending his connections with the company after over 2 years of his efforts over and over to do so. This call, Part One of a two part series called “Ending Verizon,” finds Sebren trying to make sense of a bill he received after his phone numbers were ported over to a new company and they were no longer even connected to Verizon. The whole saga becomes almost comedic. Perhaps listeners will relate to similar predicaments they may have gone through.
"The Nothing Is Real Radio Hour" includes sound and transmission arts works by Sebren, who is based in Athens, and occasionally works by other artists, both pre-recorded and performed live in the studio. In a multidisciplinary practice, much of Sebren's recent work has challenged notions of accepted reality in art, advertising, and public spaces. In mediums including sound, Sebren's work blurs actual, imagined, and technological realities as he critiques socio-political rules & regulations in our consumer "culture" and urges his audience to smile and re-think our priorities.
