Julina Guo, Senior Staff Attorney in the Immigration Law Clinic at Albany Law School, gives us a history lesson in U.S. immigration to highlight how deeply entrenched anti-Asian racism is in the history of the United States of America. She spoke with WOOC's Sina Basila Hickey about policies such as the Chinese Exclusion Act, shares how political cartoons influenced culture, explains anti-Japanese hate during WWII and in the case of Vincent Chin, and ties it all together to what is happening today. Also, On Wednesday, anti-racism and environmental organizers including NY Renews, Citizen Action, and All of Us gathered in West Capitol Park to bring attention to the role of racism in the climate crisis and support the Climate and Community Investment Act, aka the CCIA. The rally is part of a week of action to support the CCIA and the federal THRIVE Agenda. A virtual town hall meeting with state legislators and US Senator Chuck Schumer is scheduled for this Friday.
