Tracking The Odds: David Behrman and Jon Gibson (Audio)
Two treasured musical innovators in a duo performance at Roulette on December 10, 1999. David Behrman has been an influential artist since the 1960s, largely with electronic systems. Together with Robert Ashley, Alvin Lucier, and Gordon Mumma, Behrman was a founding member of Sonic Arts Union. He had a long association with Merce Cunningham as composer and performer. His accomplishments (sound design for Federico Fellini!) include producing the Columbia Records 60s-70s series that introduced Terry Riley, Robert Ashley, John Cage, Alvin Lucier, Pauline Oliveros, Steve Reich, Christian Wolff and others to the listening public. His compositions and installations continue to dazzle. Jon Gibson is master of the flute and saxophone, a composer and visual artist, and a founding and continuing member of the Philip Glass Ensemble. Gibson performed in the premiers of In C by Terry Riley and Drumming by Steve Reich, performed the music of Moondog with the composer, and was briefly a member of the Theatre of Eternal Music with La Monte Young. His contribution to the experimental arts community is immeasurable.
