Writes Powers, "Buicks n’ snowbanks started with the urge to record a piece determined mostly by chance, while making it sound cohesive through the use of two independent guitar solos running most the length of the song; presented as giving it some sort of a structure. Played over the top of a two chord piano riff in six-eight with several other instruments hidden underneath, the result is a layering of many different “chance” operations - mostly on different instruments simulated on my keyboard. Besides a guitar and keyboard, the radio was my only other obvious choice for another real instrument. The sounds heard resembling a car during the vocal section, are solely random radio discourse."
