Fern Apfel is a Kinderhook-based visual artist. Her work involves remnants of the past: old stamps, pages of diaries, pieces from well-thumbed books. She rearranges words and images from another time and place into paintings that remind us about the symbiotic relationship between our past and our present and urge us to rethink the boundaries between language and painting and narrative and abstraction.
