Prison Voices Project: Pascual Carpenter (Audio)

Apr 09, 2015
Produced by Alexandra Cox.
This week's show will include an update and re-broadcast of a previous show which focused on Pascual Carpenter, who has just been released from prison. It focused on the felony-murder rule, and why Pascual Carpenter has been incarcerated 23 years. This episode features an interview with Deirdre Sinnot, filmmaker of "23 Reasons Why 23 Years is Enough!" The film features Carpenter and explores the felony murder rule, which was used to sentence Carpenter to prison for 25 years to life. Carpenter contacted the "Prison Voices Project" from his cell in the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, N.Y., and connected PVP with Sinnot, making this show possible. The film and the interview also explores the role the media plays in fueling a fear of young men of color, and the influence that fear has at sentencing. Produced by Alexandra Cox.
