Marisa Olson
Marisa Olson's work combines performance, video, sound, drawing, and installation. She usually touches on intersections of music, entertainment and the cultural history of technology, as they effect the voice, power, and persona. She's also concerned with form-consciousness, media specificity, and smart stuff like that. Her work has most recently been presented by the Whitney Museum of American Art, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Side Cinema-Newcastle, the New York & Chicago Underground Film Festivals, the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive, New Langton Arts, Southern Exposure, Pond, Debs & Co, Participant Gallery, Glowlab, Free103Point9, and the international Futuresonic, Electrofringe, Machinista, VIPER, Sonar, and Observatori festivals. Her work has been reviewed in ArtForum, Art in America, Folha de Sao Paolo, Liberation, and elsewhere. Marisa studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College-London, History of Consciousness at UC Santa Cruz, and Rhetoric at UC Berkeley. While Wired has called her both funny *and* humorous, the New York Times has called her "anything but stupid." Marisa was born in Germany and now divides her time between California and New York.
