Turn On the News: 20120609 Pt. 1 (Audio)

Jun 09, 2012
Produced by Tom Roe.
Weekly radio show about radio, with radio art, radio news, media news, sound art, and more. This show features Videofreex, a Catskills-based video collective in the 1970s who created "Lanesville TV," what they say is the first pirate television station. We talk to Jon Nealon about his documentary about the Videofreex, Greene County's historic video collective, funded by CBS television and Abbie Hoffman. The show also tunes in Ray Bradybury's radios, in seashells and stories. Also, we preview LoVid's iParade app, and review "The Future of Audio" hearing of the Commerce Dept. n the U.S. House of Representatives. And Linga's "The Future of Radio Art" is also featured. The show will triangulate Amelia Earhart's last transmissions, and hear from Run DMC and Beyonce and the subject of radio. Plus, Improv Everywhere's "Car Alarm Symphony," and Wendy Mae Chanbers' "New York, New York" on car horns. And the Beach Boys ask, "Did God Make the Radio?"
