Pianist John Davis pays musical tribute to our country’s celebrated and influential author whose career, like Davis’, lies at the intersection of white and black culture and high and low culture in American society. The Twain-related works “play powerfully and with a rich palette” according to The New York Times. The program features works of the Georgia slave, Blind Tom Wiggins, an autistic savant piano player who toured the US extensively and appeared at HOH on four occasions from 1868 through 1871. Davis’ recent appearances include Joe’s Pub and Le Poisson Rouge as well as venues across the United States.
