Audio Buffet: Inside the Statue of Liberty

Jan 15, 2021: 3pm - 4pm
From Paul Fischer, host of "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" It was a once in a lifetime story. In 1971half a century ago..between Christmas and New Years Vietnam Veterans Against The War occupied The Statue of Liberty. 15 veterans and one journalist. I was the only reporter who went inside with them. The occupation made headlines around the world. Now, half a century later get the inside story and the backstory from two of the veterans who were there and the reporter who covered it. Jim Murphy and Don Carrico give you their first person accounts...the long road to Vietnam..to The Statue..and how it shaped their lives in the decades since. The program includes my recollections... plus excerpts from my original report 50 years ago.. and other elements. Although the timing is pure coincidence, it struck me as I was finishing the program that here is an instructive contrast between non violent civil disobedience at The Statue of Liberty to stop a war 50 years ago and an attack on The Capitol to start one a week ago.
