Two speakers will give talks on flooding and related issue. Ron Frisbee, Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Columbia and Greene Counties, will provide a talk on streams and flooding. The second speaker is Gretchen Stevens, Director of the Hudsonia Biodiversity Resources Center. Ms. Stevens will speak about a stream corridor habitat assessment conducted by Hudsonia on the Catskill Creek, and the impact that flooding has had on the stream corridor. Ms. Stevens’ talk will focus on habitats that provide natural flood control, such as wetlands and intact forests. Mr. Frisbee’s presentation will include an overview of stream dynamics – how streams naturally flow over the land; and will feature a discussion of how streams respond to disturbance from human-built infrastructure, especially under flood conditions. Ms. Stevens’ talk will focus on habitats that provide natural flood control, such as wetlands and intact forests.
