May is Haitian Heritage Month, and Haitian Flag Day is celebrated every year on May 18th. It’s an occasion of pride and festivity commemorating the national flag, which was created during the Haitian revolution of self-liberated slaves (1791-1804) and adopted by the world’s first Black-led republic on May 18, 1803. This broadcast will feature a selection of classic compas, twoubadou, mini-jazz, rock, mizik rasin, and more from the 1970s through the 2000s. Bon bagay!

Catskill resident "DJ Neva" is an ethnomusicologist, producer, and long-time cultural activist, specializing in music from the entire African continent, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America, the Maghreb and Middle East, and the Roma (Gypsy) diaspora. Formerly the producer of "Continental Drift" on WBAI-FM and New York International on Haitian community station Radio Soleil in NYC. The show is broadcast live from Catskill, NY.
